JasperSoft Says It’s Working with Microsoft
It appears that its BI Suite is now “Works with Windows Server 2008”-certified.
The company is also announcing the immediate availability of a new JasperSoft ODBO Connect product that enables Microsoft Excel to be used as a front-end for the JasperAnalysis data analysis server, extending JasperSoft’s existing support for Windows and Microsoft SQL Server platforms.
ODBO is the standard API for exchanging metadata and data between an OLAP server and a Windows client and ODBO Connect is bundled into JasperAnalysis.
In JasperSoft’s press release, San Ramji, Microsoft’s resident open source peacemaker, who was cuddling up to Eclipse last week, noted that more than 50% of open source application deployed in the enterprise are running on Windows systems and more than 50% of OLAP deployments use Excel as their client interface.
Which may explain this moment of détente.
JasperSoft’s ODBO Connect integrates directly with Excel PivotTable reports via OLE DB for OLAP (ODBO), XML for Analysis (XML/A) and Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) open standards.
Users can analyze data directly Excel instead of a web browser.
